Ashley Pedersen

Transformation Expert, Engineer, Change Management Professional

Take a look around my website and you'll find out who I am, what I do, and how to contact me. I'm excited to have you here!

Starting With Why...

As a very young child I recognized my passion for solving seemingly complex and nebulous problems. In essence, that is the definition of an Engineer. My method, however, is unique to the diverse experiences I've had both personally and professionally.

My Why
Energize people in the face of conflict to bring peace and harmony to the world.

My What
Transcend conflict in process, problem solving, between people and within one's mind, to help people see possibility where they were stuck in a binary world.

What makes me unique?

Agility / Continuous Improvement

So often we fix symptoms of an underlying issue, leading to frustration, wasted time and resources, and continued failures felt across an organization. As a lean six sigma Master Black Belt, certified Scrum Master and certified Agile Coach, my approach to solving any problem is first identifying what that problem truly is. I use a blended, custom approach to developing innovative and sustainable ideas that are suitable for today but also adaptable for the needs of the future. It's about meeting the customer needs, not over indexing a framework or philosophy to impede on how to solve them. Finally, my strategy is fail fast, incremental value and lead with data to drive the best results.

Leadership / Coach / Mentor

"The task of leadership is not to put greatness into people, but to elicit it, for the greatness is there already." --John Buchan
My philosophy is to create more leaders, not more followers. I've inspired greatness in people long before I achieved the title of leader because it's my greatest passion. Arming people with the skills and freedom to be successful is exponentially more valuable to any organization than just continuing to master my own skills. I've taught over 300+ people in lean six sigma fundamentals and mentored over 1,000+ in the successful execution of value driven projects and initiatives. I've coached squads and executive leaders in Agile ways of working to deliver the right results faster and transform behaviors of the organization. I've led several teams of diverse skillsets both formally and informally. My style is servant leadership and radical candor. Using this approach I've witnessed incredible personal and professional growth of those I've had the honor of leading.

Change Management

Residing in 30 different homes by age 14, change became a very comfortable state of being. Drawing from that experience and employing skills I've learned through various certifications, I've led several successful transformations across teams and organizations. My method is early stakeholder engagement, transparency and empowerment through the entire process. Much like solving the right problem up front, the most successful organizational changes leverage SMEs, not just leaders, to develop a vision, strategy and execution plan. Every layer of the organization experiences their company through a different lense, all of which are true and all of which have insights to bring to the table. Facilitation is simply the ability to frame up the voices in the room and paint the pathway to achieve whats been agreed upon.

Program Management

As a Black Belt, formally trained project manager and Agile practitioner & coach, I have a diverse set of tools and methods to draw upon. My resume includes projects as small as a few weeks to programs that spanned over multiple business verticals managing the strategy for the entire portfolio. What is required to manage these is unique to the size and scope as well as the needs of those involved in the program. My early career focused on more formal waterfall style project management which taught me discipline in up front planning and documentation, rigor in value determination, as well as keeping a team motivated through months of work. More recently I've adopted a fail fast mentality where allowable. Learning quickly, adding incremental value and giving an organization the flexibility to pivot in an ever changing environment has proven to provide the most value. Early engagement of a projects' customers not only provides key feedback to the project team, it motivates the customers to engage in the innovation process and inspire greater ideas and better products.

Innovation & Design Thinking

Working in a creative space is by far the most rewarding aspect to any job. Inspiring creativity in others is the ultimate reward. I'm currently working towards my innovation master and have a strong fascination with biomimic innovation. Radical change is far more comfortable for me than remaining the same, but there must always be a value case to support it. Innovation without a problem to solve is just an idea. Two key elements that set me apart in the innovation space are empathy and ideation. I've always had a skill for understanding people's true needs and behaviors and will spend a lifetime continuing to master this. When it comes to ideation, the stretch of my imagination is far and wide. A culture that challenges my own perceptions and biases is where I really thrive.

"Ashley worked for me in our Operations organization for nearly three years.  During that time, she displayed a knack for developing and integrating multiple ideas into concrete processes and systems that unlocked tremendous value for our company.  Ashley also brings a high energy entrepreneurial style of leadership to motivate and inspire every level of the organization to think differently about our results.  She effectively and consistently works and influences well above her assigned roles.

Most recently, she developed a framework to integrate new methods for innovation, continuous improvement, and project management within our company’s entire operations.  Her program led to multiple successful projects that improved business performance and contributed to the company achieving the lowest operating costs and best safety performance on record. Ashley has unlimited potential as a problem solver, innovator, teacher, and leader.  She demonstrates the rare ability to inspire others, create and implement big ideas, and achieve real and lasting results.  I highly recommend Ashley for innovation, continuous improvement, project management, and leadership roles.  She learns quickly, can operate at multiple levels, and delivers results."
Brian Pugh, Chief Innovation Officer at BPX Energy

"In 2013, I was accepted into Colorado Oil & Gas Association’s EnGen program. This is a one-year, curriculum-based, highly selective leadership development program tailored to emerging leaders in Colorado’s Oil & Gas industry. While this program shaped me as a professional, the most influential exchange was meeting Ms. Ashley. I’ve been honored to bear witness as Ashley has thoughtfully, methodically and mindfully navigated her career path from Production Engineer to Continuous Improvement Engineer to Operational Change Manager. Evolving and growing in every position she accepts, she is a brilliant mind to cross paths with. From a technical, creative and leadership perspective, Ashley has unlimited potential in this world. She has an intuitive yet logical approach with regards to dealing with conflict resolution and the humans who work on her team. Ms. Ashley is a big picture thinker who can quantify even the slightest of anomalies."

Meghan Nyberg, Owner at RME Consulting

"Working under Ashley, I was able to accomplish some of the best technical work of my career. Ashley aligned stakeholders and cleared roadblocks enabling her team to work unencumbered which resulted in high productivity and quality output. She continually implemented improvements (both business and work processes) utilizing her Lean and 6 Sigma expertise and educated dozens of colleagues enabling them to do the same. Each day I was excited to work with Ashley to drive hard while at the same time knowing she deeply cares about each individual and prioritizes their well-being and development."
Brian Nelson, Carbon Engineer at BPX Energy

"It is rare that you come across standout talent like Ashely. I had the pleasure of working with Ashley for five years collaborating on projects and launching new continuous improvement programs at oil and gas companies.

She has been successful in every role she has taken on because of her passion, work ethic, technical competency, and communication skills.  Her ability to juggle multiple projects was unlike any I have seen before and made a dramatic difference in the productivity level in every team she worked on.  I was always in awe of Ashley’s ability to command a room and get people on board with ideas, even people who were initially on completely different pages. No matter how tense a meeting, Ashley made sure everyone left with a smile and on the same page."

Jaime Schunk, Operations Manager at BPX Energy

"Ashley has unique combination of change management skills.  A lot of people have great technical solutions or make the deep personal connections that enable change.  Ashely has both of those!!  She uses those special abilities to make business impacts through innovation or continuous improvement that are significant to any business at any level."
Shawn Holzhauser, VP Development at BPX Energy

"Ashley Pedersen is one of the best managers I have ever had the privilege to work with in my oil and gas career. She is the manager that everyone in the business unit relied on for organizational change and improvement. She has the unique ability to see issues and problems quickly. She then develops sound solutions for the business. Her management approach is excellent. She invested quickly in her team and co-managers to not only meet the challenges, but also develop the skills of her team.

She is a brilliant mind in engineering and Agile teamwork. She was called on routinely by the business to coach and train others in the Agile work method. Ashley will be an asset to any team. She is very compassionate and not only listens to the concerns of her team but builds a level of respect and trust that is sorely missing in many organizations."
Leslie Malone, Engineering Manager at BPX Energy

"Ashley has a comprehensive set of broad Change Management skills, from detailed project management, oversight of technical deliveries, through to continuous improvement quality lifecycle management. Whether a AGILE approach or LEAN/Six Sigma is needed, Ashley has the ability to flex accordingly, and coach and mentor others along the way.   I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Ashley to any organization that requires a strong leader that is capable of taking ownership of deliverables and driving collaboration across many cross functional teams towards common goals and innovative solutions."
Grant Matthews, CTO at BPX Energy

She has always treated her peers and others with a great deal of respect, she’s a team player and aggressively works to complete the objectives in a timely manner. My philosophy is that the success of the team is not from the discipline to follow the process for process sake. It's to let the team mature into the method that enables the best results and interactions. I draw inspiration constantly from Spotify's Agile culture. Check it out if you're curious!
